Semantic descriptions of land-use and land-cover categories are the foundations on which the HarmonISA project is built. The aim of these ontologies is to provide semantic, computer-readable descriptions of land-use categories and also documentation of knowledge contained in the land-use catalogues for further use. Additionally they should improve the interoperability between GIS applications by providing a shared vocabulary. To this end the ontologies are available online:
You can also browse the ontologies online using the HarmonISA - Ontology Viewer.
